Hi I am going to Australia April 27 2009 through May 10 2009. I am visiting Sydney, Melbourne, and Cairns. I wanted to know how much money ( Australian Dollars) I may need to eat and drink at these locations also how much going out to a club may run and having a burger and fries for lunch. Basically how much a beer and would cost at a bar and then at a club. Also what weather I can expect would help. Thank you any info would be greatly appreciated.GOING TO AUSTRALIA HOW MUCH MONEY DO I NEED?
-Weather-
Melbourne- They have a saying about Melbourne: "You can see every season in one day" - and it's totally true, it could be raining crazily one minute and boiling hot the next.
Sydney- Pretty average, you'll be coming into a colder period during that time but it should still be temperate at the end of April.
Cairns- HOT! Seriously, it's gonna be hot. It's always hot up there. Think tropical weather, it's very humid during the nights.
-Food %26amp; Going Out-
Corner store burger and fries (we call them 'chips' except at McDonalds) would probably set you back an average of $6 - $7 AUD in any city, possibly more. You'll find things will cost a lot less in Cairns.
McDonalds do meals for anywhere from $4 - to $9 AUD roughly. Subway has foot-long subs for $7 AUD.
If you were at an RSL ,Bowling Club (Both are kinda like veterans clubs that people go to with gambling, food, drinking etc.) or a Bar a midi (small) beer and a burger would probably cost you about $12 AUD.
Going out will cost you a lot. Most people spend an average of $100 - $150 AUD on a night out. Most clubs charge a minimum $10 AUD cover charge to get in and drinks will cost you anywhere up to $15 AUD. I suggest if you wanna spend only half of that when you go out then only go to one club or two club per night you go out, and ask at the bar what the cheapest beer they have is. (In QLD ask for XXXX Beer as that should cost you under $5 AUD.
You'll find in terms of expense, Sydney will be the worst and Cairns will be the best.
If your eating out every day, drinking and doing activities on top of that, expect to be spending over $60 AUD a day.
Also- Don't get taxis if you want to save money, they are a total rip-off. Be proactive and use google maps along side the transport website for whichever state your in (very easy to find with Google, or finding bus/train times at an Information Center) and get around using public transport. I guarantee you save yourself at least $100 AUD
