My 11 year child asks what is the difference between a gamer and a game designer?

My child wants to know what each of these people do. Do they get paid for what they do. If so, which one gets more.My 11 year child asks what is the difference between a gamer and a game designer?A game designer is a person who thinks up and animates a game. A gamer is a person who plays games. Game designers get the money that gamers pay for the games. My 11 year child asks what is the difference between a gamer and a game designer?
A game designer actually designs the game... (was that too obvious?) It's a lot of work, and involves heavy programming. I assume you mean a game tester by gamer... they play the game to find glitches. The game designer gets paid more, but the game tester has every game player's dream job.My 11 year child asks what is the difference between a gamer and a game designer? And you don't know the answer?

I'll ask you a question. What's the difference between a reader and an novelist? Do they get paid?

If so, which one makes more money?

(Gamers play games. Game designers design games.)My 11 year child asks what is the difference between a gamer and a game designer?
Well, obviously a gamer is someone who plays games. Most of the time they're just fat slobs who drool over their XBoxes all day, but there are tournaments with cash prizes. Some people do make a living off games (has about the same chance of happening as your child getting on a Major League sports team, so don't encourage it!!!)

Game designers...well there are a whole range of topics there. They're the people who make the games. If you get into game design, you could be in programming, level design, object design, character design, modeling, pre-rendered graphics, conceptual artistry, sound engineering, synching, animator, customer service, marketing, etc.

MANY careers there. So maybe as your child gets older and his/her interests become more clear, you could suggest one of those paths to get him/her into game design. But to make money, you need to be the BEST. That means high marks in math for most of it.

But, it's just a question right now, so don't worry. Just say "Gamers play the games, and the designers make the games for them."My 11 year child asks what is the difference between a gamer and a game designer?gamer plays da games the game desinger makes da games
