The Bob Cat Bite, just North of Santa Fe. was selected by Gourmet Mag. as having the best hamburger/cheeseburger in the U.S. and I agree... we used to eat there at least once a week when we lived in Santa Fe.

Smokey Bones. I personally dont eat burgers. DO NOT EAT AT McDONALS! Those burgers are nasty things! 3$ for a burger...who knows what they put in that beef or chicken they put this things and it makes your hormones bigger. Its just disguisting stuff. You would rather have some healthy veggies and a salad or some FAT FREE SEAFOOD.
I love... SONIC HAMBURGERS! and MC DONALD"S FRENCH FRIED!! Even though they aren't in any way healthy :(
The best burger in America, and I have been everywhere, is at Powell's in Placerville, California. Fresh, grilled, good bread, perfectly seasoned, not perfectly round, great fresh produce. The fries are average. Second place is the pool-bar at the Double Tree Hotel in Palm Spings (I don't think it's the Double Tree any more). Third place is Cafeteria at the John F. Kennedy Airport in New York. Then it's Carl's Junior, and you can get that anywhere.
I love Hardees! I think it only called hardees in the south I think it Carls Jr. everywhere else. They're char boiled mmm so yummy!!
